ABOUT ME

For years I have been told that I should write. And I do…unless I am supposed to....

I live in a semi- tropical place with hibiscus in bloom year round and the flowers are as big as your hand. The office that I am writing from looks like it is perched among the trees. I love it here on the third floor of my home, it is a great place to watch afternoon storms come in. Virginia Wolf wrote a book I read a long time ago, “A Room of Her Own”.  It has stayed with me and become part of the fabric of my thinking. This is my room. I visit here with my favorite niece to discuss how spirit and soul work in our lives.

I am married to a gorgeous man (with movie star looks) who sometimes makes me CRAZY, who I love. Only recently, I realized (again) that he loves me, a lot! More about that later… I work with my husband, Bob, who has several companies. So we stay pretty busy, like the rest of the world, I guess.
We have two perfectly, imperfect children. Derek and Summer who are young adults now. Neither of them live at home anymore but both love being around and inviting their friends “home” for dinner. Since Summer only recently moved in with college roommates, I have quiet time, that haunts me. My Soul calls to me now, insisting that I write.

Spirit has guided me all of my life, sometimes, I pay attention. My soul whisperings and spiritual guidance are the reality I live from, my vantage point. Oh, I’ve fallen to despair a few times and really have to pay attention to my thinking  and I notice when I’m not connected to God. (My son said not to use that word so I don’t scare anyone off). Whatever. I’m one of the crazy people who talks to God all the time!
I also practice yoga and meditate regularly.

Although I never actually worked out to the point of breaking a  sweat until I was in my thirties I am now addicted to “Soul Spinning”. Okay, I kind of made that up. Really, I spin at the Y, but I recently read an article about a gal who opened a gym called Soul Spinning. It is aimed at a wealthy clientele who want a positive connection to spirit. They walk out with all that serotonin pumping from the great cardio workout and all the positive vibes after being showered with the kind of thoughts that fill me, when spinning. I love the idea and realized that is why I do it, well, part of the reason…looking good in blue jeans is also a plus.

                                                      Roxy Doodle in my office

Walking my Golden Doodle, Roxy, is part of my morning ritual. She is joyful, always happy and excited for these walks. She is a show stopper. Yes, she is beautiful on the outside but it is her pure exuberant spirit that stops people in their tracks.

Our “shelter from the storm” is a Spanish Revival house on a brick street lined with live oaks and crepe myrtles. There are yellow roses growing by my front door which is arched and wooden with a speak easy. We live on a small lake in downtown Orlando filled with all kinds of wildlife. Turtles, coots, blue heron, ducks and sometimes the swan from Lake Eola fly over for a few days, until the parks people come and retrieve them. I have always wanted Jamie Durie or one of those guys to redo my backyard to make it look like an uncovered old estate garden. While I have worked at this garden for years in the misty quiet of the morning there is still so much work to do and it has never lived up to my dreams. What does that say about me?
